Get Wealthy without Cash through Bartering and Game Thinking
This blog is an excerpt from the book
Life needs to be lived like a game where everyone wins if you are to survive and prosper.
One of the greatest game based strategies is to reduce your need for cash through the use of bartering. I don’t mean bartering a haircut in exchange for mowing your lawn. I’m speaking of bartering in the thousands or even millions of dollars.
As you likely know when you trade one thing for another it is called barter. In this type of trading, goods or services are given a specific value and are exchanged for a certain number or amount of other goods and services of equal value. Little or no cash is involved in the transaction.
The amazing thing about this approach to business is that it utilizes all of the traditional methods for creating wealth and economic freedom talked about in all those how to get rich books and tapes, but does it without cash. It does it by maximizing human talents and resources like ideas, collaboration, and networking.
Surprisingly, people of great wealth conduct much more business through barter than they do with cash. The greater a person’s wealth, the greater the probability that he or she uses many different forms of non-cash currency to create and recreate wealth.
As I said earlier in the book, cash is only one type of money. There are many different forms of money; each with their inherent strengths and weaknesses. For the past two thousand years, cash has been the most popular form of money, but it was never the only form of money. In the 21st century, cash is becoming increasingly less popular. Clearly, there are more different types of money available than ever before. As confusing as this fact may be to someone who thinks of money only in terms of cash, it is a fact.
Now is the time for you to think outside of the box.
Create a new paradigm and see money as it actually functions in the world. When we speak of barter we are thinking big. Please do not imagine a farmer trading chickens for loaves of bread. Think about buying plane tickets and living in a Five Star Resort Spa. Trading the ten non-cash currencies – physical abilities, space, information, influence and power, emotional energy, inner wisdom, clarity of thought, consistency and dependability, and other people’s barterable goods and services can help you:
- Conserve cash by profiting at full retail price from the sale of distressed, obsolete, outdated, excess or slow-moving inventory.
- Benefit in contract negotiations.
- Reduce your taxable cash income.
- Get interest free loans without borrowing money from a bank.
- Dramatically increase your chances of success when presented with a zero sum game.
Right now, the world economy is in radical transformation due to the billions of dollars in barter credits changing hands. Will you make the leap to living well or be left behind to struggle?
Note: Direct barter can have a frontier-like, anarchist element to it since anything goes and laws and rules are few and far between. Reputations, good and bad, travel fast and it is wise to avoid troublemakers and those who cannot be trusted. When both parties cannot make and trade immediately try whenever possible to get your needs met first and deliver your good and service later. This will protect you from being taken advantage of.
