What is the meaning of life, and how Applied Game Theory can help you to survive, and prosper

Q. Lewis, I am interested in exploring in-depth articles you have written on Harrison’s Applied Game Theory. Where is the best place to find them?

A. I’m glad you asked this. I’ve been struggling a bit with this blog. Some of my fans want me to go deeper, and into greater detail concerning Harrison’s Applied Game Theory (HAGT). They also want me to offer plenty of real-life examples of how I use HAGT in my own life to solve problems and also to help my life coaching clients. As you may know from the media or previous blogs here, this year, as in many recent years the Nobel Prize in economics went to two game theorists. Explain the meaning of game theory and Harrison’s Applied Game Theory? Also, explore how I and my business can use your system, Harrison’s Applied Game Theory to become more successful.

I recently came up with a solution to some of my fans wanting simpler pieces and others wanting greater depth examples. It is called Medium.com. Medium is an American online publishing platform. Though I have had over twenty books published by major American publishers, and my book have been translated into five languages, I always felt a limitation in getting my shorter articles out there. Medium offers what many call social journalism, a platform consisting of a hybrid collection of amateur and professional people and publications, including exclusive blogs and specialized publishers.

Evan Williams, Twitter co-founder and former CEO created Medium to encourage users to create posts longer than the then 140-character limit of Twitter.

Medium has been focusing on optimizing the time visitors spend reading the site (1.5 million hours in March 2015), as opposed to maximizing the size of its audience. This was exactly what I was looking for. Today, so much of the social network is focused on the standard web traffic metric of big numbers. This is nothing more than a meaningless,  and highly volatile, number. This algorithm has nothing to do with knowledge, wisdom, clarity of thought, and a quest for serious knowledge. It’s as if a game theorist and human potential teacher got a million different people who get their quality of life guidelines from watching “Keeping Up with the Kardasians”. I hold nothing against the Kardasians and if they need some family therapy I have a great coaching team that can help them out. I don’t want big numbers. I want quality readers who have 6-8 minutes to read some deep stuff!

Medium has paywalled content (which I have signed up for) which is accessible only to subscribers. Medium also began paying authors based on how much users expressed their appreciation for it through a like button which each user could activate multiple times. The formula for compensation was soon adapted to also include the amount of time readers spent reading, in addition to the use of the like button.

So Medium now has a membership program for $5 per month, offering access to “well-researched explainers, insightful perspectives, and useful knowledge with a longer shelf life”, with authors being paid a flat amount per article.

This is a perfect fit for what I am looking to do. I can introduce short 300-400 blogs that can be read in 3–4 minutes with links to longer versions of the same articles that can be read in 6-7 minutes on Medium.

I recommend you become a member of Medium if you want to stretch those critical thinking mind muscles. It is filled with great content and Medium offers users subscriptions to become a member for a $5 monthly or $50 yearly fee. With a Medium membership, access to “exclusive content, audio narrations of popular stories, and an improved bookmark section” is enabled.

I am entering a new sport, and I’m excited about it.

As many of my fans have requested I will be able to create 4-5 blogs every week with detailed facts and analysis in a format more detailed than this blog offers.

Thanks for reading my blogs. And hope you will share them with others and continue to follow me at https://lewiscoaches.medium.com

Here is my first article at Medium.com

Q. What are the best game theory strategies for solving worst-case scenarios?

A. A worst-case scenario is a concept in risk management wherein a decision-maker, in planning for potential disasters, considers the most severe possible outcome that can reasonably be projected to occur in a given situation. In life, we are constantly placed in situations where we must make decisions, and some of these conditions may lead to worst-case scenarios.

How can we prevent this from happening? The solution to this dilemma is called Harrison’s Applied Game Theory (HAGT). HAGT is based on the multiple Nobel-Prizing ideas of game theory. In game theory a person or group uses rational thinking to make a decision that will benefit them, or enable them to win”. This win happens irrespective of what other variables are in place, or what other people in the same scenario may do.

I created HAGT in 2003 because it was clear to me, as a magician, hypnotist, and stage mentalist, that most humans do not act rationally. Rather they present irrational ideas and biases to others in ways that make these ideas seem rational, though they are not rational at all.

A game theory strategist is also a futurist. They know not only short-term strategies but also the long game. To win, it is essential that they use effective, efficient, and precise, long game tactics. In order for us to achieve these same results, we need to see the consequences that will result from any particular applied strategy. If this is not done we might end up with negative unforeseen consequences, known in HAGT and as “perverse incentives”.
